Figurative drawing has been my favorite subject to study since the 9th grade. I began practicing traditional figurative sculpture and conceptual art creations during my time as a Fine Arts student. I received a Bachelor’s degree in the Fine Arts from Michigan State University in 1997. My experiences in the arts include assisting other Artists with their art work, working for other Artists, working in Michigan galleries, showing my Art work in Michigan galleries, and most of all...thinking about art.
I was a full time Project Manager/Engineer of a Construction related business for 9-1/2 years. During that time I practiced drawing and sculpting with various materials. I built a a 500 square foot garden for flowers (and the outdoor sculptures I work on from time to time), I made two Beautiful masterpiece children, Nathe and Evan. After many years of planning, I built a 400 square foot workable studio in 2004. I began melting glass above a flame in 2005. While learning to create small beads out of glass, I discovered glass murrini, and became aware of so many possibilities with this wonderful medium. I have applied my sculpting skills to working with glass, and I am studying with experienced glass artists to learn traditional and New skills with glass.
I believe everything I have done this far has been my vehicle to get to where I am now artistically.
Current goals~September-2007 (updated every 6 months)
While representing myself; I am offering the world one of a Kind Sculptural Lamp work beads. It is safe to say that these beads are Limited Editions. My work is constantly evolving. I plan for my work to only get larger, and move into a sculptural context. I am sure I will always make wearable pieces; the number of them will most likely decrease. While still offering pieces for sale through the website and auction; I look forward to a future of outside representation, as well.
I continue my education in the visual arts (as I plan to for the rest of my life). I study with artists that create pieces that share my inspirations, and are successful at what they do.
I instruct students of art in my home studio. I teach a class in Studio management and medium application with glass and clay. I instruct only 1 student at a time; being sure that I provide them with 100% of my attention. I will be planning some future workshops with groups; I will keep you posted. The feeling of being able to help someone learn to celebrate the true passion of creating art is magical. If you are interested, please send me an e-mail; Thank you.
(Beads are sculptures too!)
